RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action when the Quakers host Franklin College as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday. Kickoff from Matlack-Messer Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Franklin. The Quakers are 2-3-1 in HCAC play after a narrow 1-0 loss to league-leading Hanover College on Wednesday afternoon. The Grizzlies have yet to yield a positive result in conference and most recently fell to Transylvania 5-0 on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the HCAC Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Cody Graman, a 2011 Franklin graduate, is in his second year on the Franklin coaching staff including his first has head coach.
The Players: Earlham has scored 11 goals from five different players this season. Seniors Nicholas Dey and Vojislav Tatarevic have both found the back of the net three times while sophomore Micah Roland, and freshman Drew Fitzgibbon have both scored twice. Junior Yuki Adams netted the first goal of his collegiate career in the Quakers' 1-0 win over Defiance on Oct. 11. Luke Oliver and Mason May have combined for 20 points to lead the Grizzlies on offense.
Recent History: Earlham is 4-1-2 against Franklin since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Quakers have one the last two meetings including 3-2 double overtime win at Franklin during the 2016 season.
Matlack-Messer Stadium Dedication: A brief dedication ceremony for the new Matlack-Messer Stadium will be held prior to the men's soccer contest.
Senior Day: This game marks the final time the seniors on the men's soccer team will be playing a home game in their careers. A brief ceremony for the six seniors - Aidan Klemmer, Michael Black, Nicholas Dey, Valentino Mbaya, Simon Dickerson and Vojislav Tatarevic - will be held at halftime of the contest.
