RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team continues Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play when the Quakers host Hanover College for a 3:30 p.m. contest at Matlack-Messer Stadium on Wednesday.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the HCAC with a 2-2-1 record after falling 1-0 at Anderson University on Saturday. The Panthers are 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference after a 4-0 shutout win at Bluffton University on Saturday.
The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the HCAC Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. Matthew Wilkerson, who led Hanover to an HCAC Tournament title in 2016, is in his sixth season leading the Panthers' men's soccer program.
The Players: Earlham has scored 11 goals from five different players this season. Seniors Nicholas Dey and Vojislav Tatarevic have both found the back of the net three times while sophomore Micah Roland, and freshman Drew Fitzgibbon have both scored twice. Junior Yuki Adams netted the first goal of his collegiate career in the Quakers' 1-0 win over Defiance last Wednesday. Dominic Isadore and Tanner Korfhagen have both scores even goals and dished out one assist for Hanover. The Panthers allow under one goal a game as goalkeeper Will Bedel has a 0.85 goals against average.
Recent History: Earlham is 2-4-1 against Hanover since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The Panthers have won the last four meetings including shutting out the Quakers in the last three seasons.
