Men's Soccer Battles Bluffton in HCAC Opener on Saturday

RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday when the Quakers host Bluffton University at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Teams: Earlham and Bluffton. The Quakers are in search of their first win of the season after falling 4-1 at Wittenberg University on Tuesday. The Beavers are also winless on the season after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the College of Wooster on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Sam Byrd enters his third season as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The 2003 alumnus, who led the Quakers to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament berth in 2015, served as an assistant coach for longtime head coach Roy Messer for two seasons prior to being promoted to head coach in May of 2015. James Kusak is in his second season as Bluffton's head men's soccer coach. The Beavers finished 3-15 overall and 0-9 in HCAC play in 2016.

The Players: Senior Nicholas Dey leads the Quakers with three goals this season while fellow senior Vojislav Tatarevic has found the back of the net twice. Freshman Drew Fitzgibbon scored his first collegiate goal and Earlham's first of the season in a loss against Oberlin College on Sept. 2. Ezekiel Davis has scored two goals for the Beavers.

Recent History: Earlham is a perfect 7-0 against Bluffton since coming a member of the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The closest contest of those seven season, however, came last year as the Quakers escaped with a 3-2 road victory.
