SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Wittenberg University struck for three first-half goals in a 4-1 win over the Earlham College men's soccer team in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers scored twice in the first 20 minutes as Austin Lewis and Nick Togliatti bested the Quakers' goalkeeper, sophomore Brady Bubb. Wittenberg found the back of the net once more in the first half as Sam Bechtel scored in the 39th minute.
Leading 3-0, Wittenberg bunkered down to begin the second half. Senior Nicholas Dey broke through for his third goal of the season at the 84:06 mark. With the Quakers pressing forward to get within a goal, Wittenberg's Jesse Grubb netted the Tigers fourth goal two minutes later to put the game away.
Wittenberg outshot Earlham 18-5 in the game including holding a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
Bubb took the loss despite making nine saves in the contest. Harrison VanTilburg earned the win for Wittenberg while making save.
Earlham opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play at Bluffton University. Kickoff from the new Matlack-Messer Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m.
