WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University scored two first half goals and held the lead in a 4-1 win over the Earlham College men's soccer team in non-conference action on Saturday evening.
The Cardinals (6-2-0) broke through the Quakers defense in the 31st minute as Noah Coons headed in a pass from Juan Rivas. Less than 10 minutes later, Rivas himself scored as he ran through a through ball from Erick Juarez-Manning to beat Earlham goalkeeper, senior Simon Dickerson.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, senior Vojislav Tatarevic scored his second goal of the season to cut the hosts lead in half at the 52:43 mark. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Rivas put the game out of reach with two more goals to complete the hat trick.
Otterbein outshot Earlham 18-10 in the game including earning three corner kicks to the Quakers' two.
Earlham did have a balanced offensive attack as 10 different Quakers took one shot. Senior Valentino Mbaya and freshman Drew Fitzibbon joined Tatarevic by firing a shot on net. Dickerson took the loss despite making eight saves in the contest.
The Quakers will conclude non-conference play by traveling to Wittenberg University on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
