RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's soccer team fell to crosstown rival Indiana University East 3-0 at Matlack-Messer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Wolves (3-2-1), who are in their first year as a varsity program, struck for two goals in the first seven minutes. Carson Jones found Michael Hall for a tap-in goal in the fifth minute. Ninety seconds later, a Nathan Dove cross found the head of Trevor Lenke to give IU East a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later, Jones scored himself off of a pass from Daniel Sims.
Earlham mustered eight shots on goal in the game, but could not break the Red Wolf defense as Aaron Gibson made four saves in the shutout victory. Freshman Chima Ndukwu took the loss in net, making four saves and allow three goals in 90 minutes.
Senior Nicholas Dey, who played in his first game this season, fired four shots with two being on net.
The Quakers (0-4-0) host the College of Wooster for a 3:30 p.m. game next Saturday.
