RICHMOND, Ind. – Junior Victor Zuniga scored his first goal of the season, but the Transylvania University Pioneers avenged a 2015 loss to the Quakers with a 2-1 victory at Matlack Field on Wednesday.
The Pioneers struck less than five minutes into the game when a Jonathan Rase pass found the foot of Riley Calhoon in the box. Calhoon fired a shot low to the far side, beating Earlham goalkeeper, sophomore Peter Kashatus.
Zuniga leveled the game in the 35th minute, scoring off of a rebound. Transylvania, however, broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Blake Chidester snuck through the Quakers' defense and scored the game-winning goal.
Transylvania took 17 shots in the game compared to seven for Earlham. The Pioneers fired seven shots on goal while four of the Quakers' shots were on net.
The Pioneers committed 14 fouls while the Quakers had nine. Earlham had to play a man down for the final three and a half minutes.
The Quakers will end their 2016 season with senior day on Saturday against Manchester University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
