RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's golf team was one of 34 NCAA Division III squads to receive the 18Birdies Team Academic Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), when the list of honored teams was announced late Friday.
The accolade marks the Quakers' second year receiving the GCAA Team Academic Award in the program's second year of competition. Earlham men's golf posted a 3.21 team GPA in the 2017-18 academic year.
Earlham was one of four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams to be recognized with the 18Birdies/GCAA Team Academic Award, joining Defiance College, Mount St. Joseph, and Transylvania.
The GCAA Team Academic Awards recognize all collegiate men's golf programs with a 3.00-or-better team GPA during the academic year. The awards are sponsored by 18Birdies, the premier mobile and social golf platform that aims to inspire golfers of all ages and skill level by providing them tools to manage their game and motivating them through shared experiences with other golfers.
Earlham men's golf finished the 2017-18 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the 72-hole 2018 HCAC Men's Golf Tournament. The Quakers placed three individuals among the top 20 finishers, led by first year Garrett Schuler who earned HCAC Freshman of the Year honors after firing a 300 (+16) and placing sixth overall.
