RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's golf team opens its 2017-18 season at the Beaver Fall Classic hosted by Bluffton University on Friday and Saturday.
The Classic: Earlham will compete with host Bluffton a well as NCAA Division III member Ohio Northern University and non-NCAA Division III schools Ohio Christan University, and the University of Northwest Ohio. The first round will be held on Friday, Sept. 1, with the final round on the follow day.
The Courses: Hidden Creek Golf Course (Lima, Ohio) will serve as host for the classic's first round on Saturday and will play at 6,810 yards with a par of 72. The squads will then move to Bluffton Golf Course for Sunday's final round. The course will play at 6,668 yards and a par of 72.
The Coach: Earlham is under the direction of second-year head coach Matt Gehring. A graduate of Defiance College, Gehring spent the previous four seasons as head women's golf coach and assistant men's golf coach at his alma mater.
The Players: Sophomore Graham Sherard led the Quakers with an average round of just over 79 strokes in 2016. Sophomores Jared Birr, Matt Truex and Patrick Wright all averaged between 82 and 85 strokes per round.
