RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College men's basketball team opens its 2017-18 campaign on Wednesday when the Quakers host Kenyon College for a 7:30 p.m. game at Schuckman Court.
The Teams: Earlham and Kenyon. The Quakers finished the 2016-17 season with a 6-19 record and a 2-16 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) competition. The Lords ended their 2017-18 campaign with a 5-21 record and a loss to No. 22 Ohio Wesleyan University in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament quarterfinals.
The Coaches: Jason Polykoff is in his fourth season leading the Quakers' men's basketball program. Polykoff, who came to Earlham from the University of Pennsylvania, led the program to its best finish in a decade last season. Dan Priest returns for his seventh season on the Kenyon sidelines after spending the previous seven seasons as head coach at Hendrix College (Arkansas).
The Players: Darrell Hutchison and Elijah Wilson-Thomas both return after leading Earlham in scoring at 14.8 points per game and 11.9 points per game respectively. Hutchison and Tarig Eldosougi both grabbed nearly four rebounds per contest last season while point guard Blake Bonin dished out three assists per game. Kenyon also returns its top two scorers in Bennett Grigull and Phillip Crampton. The two combined to score of 23 points per game for the Lords.
Tale of the Tape (from 2016-17 season): Points per game – Earlham 66.0, Kenyon 67.2; opponents' points per game – Earlham 77.5, Kenyon 75.5; field goal percentage – Earlham 41.9, Kenyon 40.2: three-point percentage – Earlham 36.2, Kenyon 32.2; rebounds per game – Earlham 29.0, Kenyon 37.2; assist-to-turnover ratio – Earlham 0.85, Kenyon 0.86.

Recent History: Earlham is 2-4 against Kenyon since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010-11 season. The Lords have won the last two meetings including an 83-63 win in Gambier, Ohio, last year.
