NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Sophomore Chainey Zolman, a North Manchester native, led the Quakers with 14 points and eight rebounds in a 67-53 loss to Manchester University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday.
The Quakers opened the game on a 12-2 run using six points from Zolman and six from sophomore Darrell Hutchison. The Spartans, who fell to Earlham 90-87 in overtime in the team's first meeting of the season at Schuckman Court, scored 13 of the game's next 14 points to take a 15-13 lead.
The Spartans ended the first half on a 10-6 run and led 31-27 at halftime, and scored the first ten points of the second half to lead by 14. The Quakers got within 10 (51-41) points on a Zolman jumper with 10:06 to play in regulation, but could get no closer.
Along with Zolman's season-high 14 points, sophomore Darrell Hutchison added 11 points on 5-9 shooting. Hunter added eight points and four assists while freshman Kenneth Stalling Jr. scored six points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out two assists.
Adrian Johnson led all scorers with 15 points while also tallying seven steals and dishing out five assists.
Both teams shot between 45-50 percent, but Manchester made nine more field goals (29-20). Both teams grabbed 29 rebounds.
The Quakers return to action hosting Transylvania University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
