RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing streak when the Quakers host league-leading Hanover College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Hanover. The Quakers enter the game 5-7 overall and 1-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play after falling 86-62 at Transylvania University Wednesday evening. The Panthers are 10-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference after a 93-63 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday.
The Coaches: Earlham is under the direction of third-year head coach Jason Polykoff. An alumnus of Haverford College, Polykoff came to Earlham from Penn, where he served as an assistant coach. He also won four state championships at Friends' Central High School in Wynnewood, Pa. Jon Miller, who recently won his 200th game as a collegiate head coach, has been the head coach at his alma mater for nine seasons.
The Players: Sophomore Darrell Hutchison leads the Quakers in scoring at 14.3 points per game and rebounding at 4.1 boards per game. The Indianapolis, Ind., native scored a career-high 24 points on 10-12 shooting to lift the Quakers to a 64-60 come-from-behind win at Centre College on Dec. 21. Junior Elijah Wilson-Thomas (10.1 PPG) freshman Blake Bonin (7.9 PPG), and sophomore Nick Sands (7.6 PPG) all score over seven points a game for Earlham. Bonin and sophomore Isaiah Waire dish out over two assists per contest. Wes McKinney leads the Panthers and is second in the conference in scoring at 21.0 points per game. He also grabs nearly nine rebounds per contest. Corey Muchmore (14.5 PPG) and Cam Fails (13.8 PPG) also average double figures in scoring.
