WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Kaitlyn Brunner and sophomore Thu Pham netted goals for the Earlham College field hockey team, but the College of Wooster scored three goals as the Fighting Scots edged the Quakers 3-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action on Friday.
Wooster took a two-goal lead when Kayla O'Connor deflected a cross past Earlham goalkeeper, freshman Kudzai Mushongahande, in the 47th minute. Pham cut the Quakers' deficit to within a single goal when she scored off of an assists from fellow sophomore Isabella Grasso at the 58:09 mark of the second half.
Rachel Wetzel of Wooster scored unassisted less than 90 seconds late to put the Scots back up two goals. Senior Megan Hut found Brunner in the final seconds of regulation to make the score 3-2.
Mushongahande took the loss, making 13 saves on 26 Wooster shots. Earlham took 14 shots as a team including 12 in the second half.
The Quakers stand at an even 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in NCAC competition. Earlham will look for its first conference win of the year tomorrow (Saturday) at Oberlin College. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
