RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College football team travels to Defiance College for a 1:30 p.m. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Defiance. The Quakers are coming off their bye week and have an 0-3 overall record after falling 27-16 at Anderson University on Sept. 16. The Yellow Jackets are 0-4 this season after a 37-14 loss at the hands of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Defiance has not scored more than 14 points in any game this season.
The Coaches: Nick Johnson enters his third year as Earlham's head football coach. The HCAC Coach of the Year in 2015, Johnson played football for the Quakers from 1997-01 and later served the program as defensive coordinator from 2007-12. He also held the position of head track and field coach for 12 seasons. Adam Mershman is in his second season with the Defiance football program and his first has head coach.
The Offense: Senior Wesley Hundley has accounted for 858 of 985 yards (87 percent) of the Quakers' offense through three games this season while leading the team in passing and rushing. Senior wide receiver Marcaus Cooper as hauled in 21 receptions for 277 yards and four touchdowns. Logan Mico leads the Defiance offense having thrown for 675 yards and two touchdown. One of those touchdowns and 295 of those yards are to DeVonte Cravin.
The Defense: Junior Joe Enwright, who played with the offensive unit his first two years, leads the team in tackling with 21 total tackles including 10 solo tackles. Sophomore Dan O'Donnell also has 20 tackles while fellow sophomore R.J. Scott has recorded two of the Quakers' three sacks. The Yellow Jacket quadruplet of Jalin Nealy, Cody Brown, Markell Moncrief and Beau Barkley all have 30 tackles. Moncrief has two of Defiance's interceptions.
Recent History: Earlham has not beaten Defiance since joining the HCAC prior to the 201- season. The Yellow Jackets have won every matchup by at least two touchdowns.
