RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College football team concludes non-conference play with a 3 p.m. contest at Hiram College on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Hiram. The Quakers fell in the season-opener 49-20 at Wilmington College. The Terriers had a bye week one and finished the 2016 season 3-7.
The Coaches: Nick Johnson enters his third year as Earlham's head football coach. The HCAC Coach of the Year in 2015, Johnson played football for the Quakers from 1997-01 and later served the program as defensive coordinator from 2007-12. He also held the position of head track and field coach for 12 seasons. Hendry Stanford enters his fifth season as Hiram's head coach in 2017.
The Offense: Senior Wesley Hundley was involved in 56 of the Quakers' 60 plays at Wilmington and accounted for 282 of the team's 286 yards. Fellow senior Marcaus Cooper hauled in six passes for 76 yards and a touchdown last Saturday. Senior running back Danny Robinson led Hiram's ground game in 2016 as he rushed for 683 yards and two touchdowns. The Terriers will need to replace their quarterback and top four receivers from last season.
The Defense: Sophomore Dan O'Donnell tallied 12 tackles at Wilmington while junior Joe Enwright made 11 tackles. Sophomore R.J. Scott made Earlham's lone tackle for loss in the opener. Hiram will need to replace its top three tackles on the defensive side, but a pair of sophomores (Horace Johnson and Glenn Rushing) return after recording over 50 tackles as freshmen.
Recent History: Earlham has not faced Hiram since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) prior to the 2011 season.
