The Coaches: Nick Johnson enters his third year as Earlham's head football coach. The HCAC Coach of the Year in 2015, Johnson played football for the Quakers from 1997-01 and later served the program as defensive coordinator from 2007-12. He also held the position of head track and field coach for 12 seasons. Hendry Stanford enters his fifth season as Hiram's head coach in 2017.

The Terriers will need to replace their quarterback and top four receivers from last season.

The Defense: Sophomore Dan O'Donnell tallied 12 tackles at Wilmington while junior Joe Enwright made 11 tackles. Sophomore R.J. Scott made Earlham's lone tackle for loss in the opener.
