RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team was one of 77 NCAA Division III teams recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Wednesday with the Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 academic year.
Earlham Baseball posted a 3.16 GPA over the 2017-18 academic year, earning the accolade for the first time in program history.
"Words cannot express how proud I am of our players for our program to be recognized for its achievements in the classroom," said Steve Sakosits, Earlham's head baseball coach. "I want our kids to compete in everything they do – both in the classroom and on the field – and to embrace the idea that the pursuit of excellence requires an everyday commitment in all that they do."
The Quakers were one of three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) programs to earn the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for 2017-18. Earlham was joined on the list by Anderson University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Earlham Baseball finished its 2018 campaign with a 23-14 overall mark, posting 20-or-more wins for the fifth-straight season. The Quakers, who went 7-10 in their HCAC slate, placed four on the All-HCAC teams: Second Team honorees Walter Talcott (P), Danny Dopp (1B), and Addison Robertson (DH), along with Honorable Mention selection Dre Davis (IF).
