GREENWOOD, Indiana - Seniors Howie Smith and Eric Elkus garnered the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Pitcher of the Week and Hitter of the Week awards respectively for leading the Earlham College baseball team to a 4-0 record last week.
Smith pitched his fourth consecutive complete game in a 6-0 victory for the Quakers over Hanover College last weekend. Smith struck out five batters and scattered eight hits in the shutout win. He also pitched one inning of relief in a midweek win over Mount St. Joseph University.
Elkus hit three homes runs and finished the week 7-15 with five RBIs and five runs scored to go along with the three home runs. The senior's best game of the week came in the first game of the Hanover series where he launched two home runs and drove in three.
The Quakers (26-12, 21-6 HCAC) will host the HCAC Tournament at Sadler Stadium.
