Smith Named HCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week For Second Time This Season

GREENWOOD, Indiana – Earlham College baseball senior Howie Smith has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Pitcher of the Week for games played from April 17-23.

Smith, who is being honored as the HCAC's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, pitched 11 innings and struck out 11 batters in leading the Quakers to a 4-1 record last week. He pitched his third complete game in the first game of the Quakers' series at Anderson University, allowing one earned run while striking out six batters. The win was Smith's sixth of the season and 20th of his career, the most in program history.

Smith also came in relief in Earlham's win at Mount St. Joseph University on Tuesday, pitching two innings and striking out five.

Earlham faces Bluffton University on Tuesday, and after a non-conference contest at Wittenberg University, returns home for a three-game series against Transylvania University this weekend.
