RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College baseball team opens its home schedule on Wednesday against Olivet College (Michigan) at Randal R. Sadler Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Teams: Earlham and Olivet. The Quakers are in search of their first win of the season after getting swept in a three-game series at the University of the South (Sewanee) last weekend. The Comets are also 0-3 after falling to Hanover College in a three-game series last weekend.
The Coaches: Steve Sakosits is in his seventh season leading the Earlham baseball program. A coach of 38 All-HCAC honorees, Sakosits is the program's all-time leader in career victories and has led the Quakers to the HCAC Tournament the past two seasons. Andy Merchant is in his first season as head coach at Olivet.
Hitters to Watch: Junior Kendal Baker leads the team in batting average at a .429 clip. Freshman Isaiah Shake has a .375 batting average to go along with two doubles and two RBIs. Senior Eric Elkus leads the team in RBIs with seven. Aaron Gillespie carries the Comets offense with six hits, two RBIs and a .500 batting average.
Pitchers to Watch: Freshman Jordan Christian and junior Dorian Holmes were the most effective Quaker pitchers in Tennessee last weekend. Both did not surrender an earned run with Christian pitching 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and Holmes pitched 2.2 innings and just one hit. Aiden Holliday has a 2.25 ERA in four innings pitched for the Comets. Zach Oshinsky and Brett Tyndall have yet to give up an earned run, but neither have pitched more than two innings.
Recent History: Earlham has not played Olivet since joining the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) prior to the 2011 season.
