HCAC Coaches Tab Baseball as Preseason Favorite

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Earlham College baseball team has been picked first in the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll released by the league on Wednesday.

The Quakers received 98 points out of a possible 100 including eight first-place votes. Manchester University finished second with 84 points while Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the defending HCAC regular season and tournament champions, finished third with 76 points and two first place votes. Seniors Howie Smith, Brennan Laird, Nate Lynch, Cody Krumlauf, Eric Elkus, and Matt Barger along with sophomore Walter Talcott were listed as HCAC Players to Watch by the conference.

Last season, the Quakers finished tied for third in the HCAC and advanced to the HCAC Tournament championship round. Earlham begins its quest for a conference championship at Sewanee (the University of the South) for a three-game series on March 4-5.
