Quakers Open with Win Over Trine

RICHMOND, Ind. A pair of goals in the second half had the Earlham College field hockey squad celebrating a 3-0 victory over Trine University Wednesday on Comstock Field.

Christine Ferguson scored on a penalty stroke in the first period at 14:37, while Kate Birdsall added the second goal at 58:21. Anne-Margreet Sas put the final score on the board at 62:32 with Birdsall picking up an assist on the play.

The Quakers had a 20-1 advantage in shots and led 18-1 in penalty corners. Goalkeeper Emma Treece had one save for the Quakers.

Earlham (1-0) returns to the field at home on Saturday against Transylvania University. The non-conference contest begins at 1 p.m.

Ryan Taylor led Earlham with 19 points against nationally-ranked Transylvania University as the Quakers fell 89-76 to the Pioneers, who are ranked 18th in the latest d3hoops.com poll .

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game was in Lexington on Feb.1.

Women's Basketball
Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
