RICHMOND, Ind. — The team awards for the
Earlham College baseball squad were announced on Monday.
A total of eight awards for the 2010 season were handed out to five recipients led by
Jake Carr, who was named the Most Valuable Player.
Carr topped the Quakers in RBI with 24, while finishing second in batting average at .330, hits with 37 and doubles with seven. Carr also received the Captain’s Award, after
ending his career by establishing new standards for the baseball program as the all-time leader in batting average (.381), hits (180), doubles (40), runs batted in (102) and runs scored (99).
Chris Baumann received two awards. He was selected as the Newcomer of the Year and the Offensive Player of the Year.
Baumann led the Quakers in hits with 44 and posted a team-high .415 batting average. He also led the squad with four triples, while contributing one homer and 18 RBI.
Tyler Schroeder was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Schroeder started all 34 of Earlham’s games this season and was third in put outs with 96, while leading the squad with a .990 fielding percentage. He had three assists and made one error in centerfield.
Adam Painter was selected as the Pitcher of the Year. Painter was 5-6 this year with a 4.37 ERA. In 13 appearances and 12 starts, Painter logged 70 innings with 52 strikeouts. He had six complete games and one shutout.
Gilbert Ambler picked up a pair of awards, receiving the Mental Attitude Award in addition to being named the Most Improved Player. Ambler was in seven games this season and had three hits in nine trips to the plate with a double and two RBI.
