Wertman Takes NCAC Shot Put Title

GRANVILLE, OhioThe Earlham College men’s track team had one first-place finish as the Quakers participated in the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Friday at Denison University.

Chad Wertman had a school record throw of 53’9¼” on his final opportunity as he won the shot put championship for the second straight season. Wertman was in second place before his last attempt, which was a NCAA provisional qualifying distance.

Also in the shot put, Chris Shaw recorded a toss of 47’3½” to take fourth place. Bo Braun advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash with the fifth fastest time of 50.93 seconds.

The championships resume on Saturday. The field events start at 10:30 a.m., while the action on the track begins at 2:15 p.m.

Ryan Taylor led Earlham with 19 points against nationally-ranked Transylvania University as the Quakers fell 89-76 to the Pioneers, who are ranked 18th in the latest d3hoops.com poll .

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game was in Lexington on Feb.1.

Women's Basketball
Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
