Quakers Finish Florida Trip With Loss to Bethany

FT. PIERCE, Fla.The Earlham College baseball team ended its Florida trip on Wednesday with a 6-4 loss to Bethany College at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex.

Bethany (3-0) grabbed an early advantage with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Earlham’s Andrew Morrical tied the contest in the third inning with a sacrifice fly.

The Bison went back on top with another run in the fourth before the Quakers responded with a sacrifice fly from Ross Yoho in the sixth.

One inning later, Bethany broke the game open with three unearned runs off of Justin Broach (0-2), who took the loss after entering the contest in the sixth in relief of Yoho.

Yoho closed the gap to 5-3 with a run-scoring single in the eighth, but the Bison picked up another tally in the bottom of the frame to keep their three-run margin.

Morrical ended the scoring with a RBI single in the ninth inning.

Conner Gable and Morrical led the Quakers with two hits apiece.

The Quakers (1-6) begin play in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Saturday against Wittenberg University. The doubleheader at McBride Stadium gets underway at 1 p.m.

Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Ryan Taylor led Earlham with 19 points against nationally-ranked Transylvania University as the Quakers fell 89-76 to the Pioneers, who are ranked 18th in the latest d3hoops.com poll .
