FT. PIERCE, Fla.The Earlham College baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Monday to Bethany College as the Quakers resumed their Florida trip at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex.

The Bison won the first game 5-2 and then took the second contest 10-4.

In the opener, Bethany (2-0) scored twice in the top of the second inning before the Quakers tied the contest with two runs in their half the inning. Ross Yoho and Corey Murray both walked and later scored on wild pitches.

In the seventh inning, Bethany broke the tie on a sacrifice fly and then added two more runs to take a three-run lead.

Justin Broach (0-1) worked six innings for the Quakers giving up four runs with only two being earned. He surrendered five hits and had two walks with a strikeout. Murray pitched in the seventh and gave up a run on two hits.

Chris Baumann and Murray each had a hit for the Quakers.

Bethany started game two with a run in the first and three more in the second before the Quakers got on the scoreboard with three runs in the third.

Jake Carr got it started with a run-scoring single before Andrew Morrical added double that produced a run. Murray’s RBI single made it 4-3.

The Bison scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 6-3 advantage.

Baumann had a sacrifice fly for the Quakers in the sixth to close the gap to 6-4, but in the bottom of the frame Bethany scored four times to take control of the contest.

Carr led the Quakers with three hits, while Yoho finished with two hits.

Murray (0-1) started the game on the mound for the Quakers and worked two innings and he was followed by Conner Gable, Chris Tillery and Colton Bragg.

Earlham (1-4) is scheduled to face Delaware Valley College on Tuesday in a single game at a time to be announced.

Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
