MEADVILLE, Pa.The Earlham College women’s basketball team started a long weekend with a 71-46 loss on Friday night to Allegheny College in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

Natasha Norman topped the Quakers with nine points, while Kate Franks and Jessica Wooden tossed in eight points each.

Charvonne Long scored six points as she finished with a game-high eight rebounds.

The Quakers grabbed an early lead when Long scored the first basket of the contest at 19:07.

After the Gators (9-11, 6-5) tied the game, Michelle Miranda made 1-of-2 free throws to give the Quakers a 3-2 advantage with 16:45 left in the opening period.

With seven straight points, Allegheny took a 9-3 lead at the 14:24 mark. Moments later, Wooden brought the Quakers to within one point twice with the last time coming at 11:22 when she drilled a 3-pointer to close the gap to 12-11.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Allegheny went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to make it 23-11 with 7:19 remaining before halftime.

From that point, the Gators worked their way to a 41-15 lead by intermission and they maintained control the rest of the way.

Earlham (2-18, 1-10) visits Hiram College on Saturday. The NCAC match up gets underway at 2 p.m.

Women's Basketball
Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Ryan Taylor led Earlham with 19 points against nationally-ranked Transylvania University as the Quakers fell 89-76 to the Pioneers, who are ranked 18th in the latest d3hoops.com poll .

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game was in Lexington on Feb.1.
