WOOSTER, Ohio — The
Earlham College men’s basketball team dropped a 63-54 decision at the
College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers had several early leads in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest, including a 16-10 advantage when
Kyle Calder drilled a 3-pointer with 12:20 left in the opening period.
Wooster (11-4, 6-0) responded with seven straight points to grab a 17-16 lead at the 10:14 mark. Moments later,
Dustin Rusk gave the Quakers what turned out to be their final lead of the contest at 19-17 with 9:55 left in the half.
The game was tied at 25-25 and 27-27 before the Scots scored the last four points of the stanza to lead 31-27 at intermission.
In the second half,
Ryan Taylor scored the initial basket of the period to cut Earlham’s deficit to 31-29, but the Scots put together and 8-0 run to lead 39-29 at the 13:41 mark.
A. J. Sutherlin hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to 39-34 with 12:29 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for the Quakers, that was as close as they could get the rest of the way.
Taylor topped the Quakers with 11 points, while Sutherlin tossed in 10 points.
Matt Marsh finished with eight points and Calder contributed seven.
Marty Broderick added six points as he led the Quakers with five rebounds and three assists.
Earlham (3-12. 1-5) entertains
Kenyon College Wednesday. The NCAC match up on
Schuckman Court in the Athletics and
Wellness Center gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
