RICHMOND, Ind.It’s been a couple of months since Cassie Gage wore her Earlham College field hockey uniform for the last time.

Back in November, Gage had a chance to play in the 2009 Division III Senior All-Star Game at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. “Going into the game I was very nervous, but really excited,” Gage said. “I couldn’t believe it at first, but once I got on the field all of my nervousness went away.”

Having a lot of support at the match helped Gage relax and enjoy the experience. “It was very exciting that I had fans cheering for me,” she said. “When I heard the Quaker Army cheers I just had to stop and look around.”

Earlham Head Coach Jill Butcher, some of Gage’s teammates and several others attended the event. “Being selected as a senior all-star is the ultimate honor in college field hockey,” Butcher said. “I am so happy for Cassie that her four years of dedication and hard work garnered this recognition.”

“Cassie not only represented Earlham College with great pride but also showcased her talents,” Butcher added. “The 15 supporters consisting of teammates and their families, coaching staff and other North Coast Athletic Conference colleagues could not have been prouder. It is such an honor for our institution to be represented on a national stage.”

Gage also did what she has always done during a match, she scored. “This game was a fantastic way to end my field hockey career,” Gage said. “I couldn’t ask for a better way to finish.”

In her time at Earlham, Gage became the all-time leading scorer in school history with 92 points. “Four years ago, I didn’t think I had enough talent to play field hockey in college,” she said. “I have come along way and Earlham gave me a chance to prove myself wrong.”

Gage had 16 goals and five assists this season to earn All-NCAC First Team, while ending her career with 39 goals and 14 assists.
