CLINTON, Ind. — The
Earlham College women’s basketball team had two players in double figures on Tuesday night as the Quakers fell 84-56 to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in the
Clinton Recreation Center.
Nikki Darrett and
Starr Gary scored 10 points each to lead the Quakers. Darrett also topped the Quakers with eight rebounds, while
Gary pulled down six rebounds and handed out a pair of assists.
Charvonne Long finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Michelle Miranda contributed seven points.
The game was close early with the Quakers grabbing a 12-11 advantage when Darrett hit two free throws with 12:14 left in the opening period. The Pomeroys (6-7) took the lead for good moments later with a basket to make it 13-12 at 12:02.
After Miranda hit a 3-pointer to cut the Earlham deficit to 18-17 at the 9:27 mark, the Pomeroys scored seven straight points to take a 25-17 lead with 7:22 remaining in the first half.
The Quakers rallied to make it 25-23 when Long scored at 5:56. Unfortunately for the Quakers, the Pomeroys went on a 13-0 run and eventually led 38-25 at intermission.
In the second half, Earlham was able to get to within 42-34 when Darrett drilled a 3-pointer at 16:54. From that point, St. Mary-of-the-Woods pulled away for the victory.
Earlham (2-12, 1-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference) visits the College of Wooster on Saturday. The NCAC contest gets underway at 3 p.m.
