RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Earlham College women’s basketball team couldn’t stop a rally by
Hiram College Saturday afternoon as the Quakers fell 74-68 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on
Schuckman Court in the Athletics and
Wellness Center.
After a few early lead changes, Earlham built a double-digit advantage as the Quakers eventually were in front 42-31 at intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to maintain their lead. With 15:35 remaining, Earlham was on top 48-35 after a basket and free throw by
Nikki Darrett. Later in the period,
Starr Gary scored to give the Quakers a 52-39 lead with 14:00 left in the game.
It was at that point that the Terriers (2-10, 1-3) started the road back and eventually tied the contest at 54-54 with 6:32 remaining. The game was then tied at 60-60 with 3:43 left to set the stage for a decisive 14-8 run by Hiram.
Darrett and Gary led the Quakers with 22 points each. Darrett finished with seven rebounds and three assists.
Gary pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Whitney Sparkman contributed 11 points,
Michelle Miranda had four assists.
Earlham (2-11, 1-4) is on the road Tuesday against St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. The non-conference affair begins at 7 p.m.
