RICHMOND, Ind. — A first half goal by
Bannet Asingura gave the Earlham men’s soccer team all of the offense the Quakers would need in a 1-0 win to claim the Freedom Trophy match with
Oberlin College.
Asingura scored at 16:00 of the North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Matlack Field.
Jeremy Pillow was credited with an assist on the play, which was his second of the year. The score was Asingura’s team-high ninth goal of the fall.
The Freedom Trophy was established in 2005 by the 1954 Earlham men’s soccer team when that squad was inducted into the Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame. Oberlin leads 3-2 in the series. Earlham’s other win was a 2-1 overtime decision in 2007.
On Saturday, the Oberlin led 17-10 in shots and 5-0 in corner kicks, but Earlham goalkeeper
Jonah Kreniske was up to the task with 11 saves against the Yeomen (5-3-2, 0-1-1) as he posted his second shutout of the season.
Earlham (6-3-2, 1-1) visits the College of Wooster next Saturday.The NCAC match begins at 3:30 p.m.
