Gage Scores Three Times as Quakers Beat Oberlin 4-1

RICHMOND, Ind. Cassie Gage scored three goals on Saturday as the Earlham College field hockey team defeated Oberlin College 4-1 on Comstock Field.

This is the second time in the last three contests that Gage has scored three times.

Oberlin (0-5, 0-4) got the first goal at 19:09 of the North Coast Athletic Conference match.

Gage then had her first two goals to give the Quakers a 2-1 advantage by intermission. The first was unassisted at 24:15, while the next came with an assist from Kate Birdsall at 25:41.

In the second half, Chrissy Sollenberger made it 3-1 with her third goal of the season at 58:56 with Gage assisting.

Gage finished the afternoon with her 10th goal of the year at 68:13. Gage is closing in on some all-time marks at Earlham. She now second on the all-time list with 79 points with 33 goals. She is fifth with 13 assists.

Margaret Kerrick (1983-86) holds the Earlham records in goals with 42 and points with 89. Rebecca Aldred (2000-03) leads the way with 18 career assists.

On Saturday, the Quakers led 14-13 in shots and had a 13-11 edge in penalty corners. Earlham goalkeeper Emma Treece had four saves.

Earlham (4-4, 1-4) returns to action at Kenyon College on Oct. 9. The NCAC match begins at 4:30 p.m.

Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
