WILBERFORCE, Ohio — The Earlham College men’s tennis team was nearly perfect on Thursday as the Quakers blanked Central State University 9-0.
The Quakers won five singles contests and a pair of doubles matches on their way to the win. Central State forfeited the other two contests.
First-year David Bluestein (Durham, NH/Buxton School) beat Eric Burba 8-0 at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Josue Rivera (Princeton, NJ/Pennington) defeated Nick O’Rouke by the same score at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Colin Swihart (Midland, MI/Midland) posted an 8-1 win at No. 3 singles over Darryl Brownlee. Senior Ben Schoener (New York, NY/Trevor Day School) won 8-0 over Zack Davis at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, first-year Gus Schuerger (Dallas, TX/Woodrow Wilson) won 8-0 over Derrick Morgan.
In doubles, Rivera and junior Aaron Weeden (Muncie, IN/Burris) defeated Davis and O’Rouke 8-0 at No. 1. First-year Nabil Parker (London, England/International) teamed with Schuerger to win 8-0 over Brownlee and Burba at No. 2.
Earlham (4-9) is at Wittenberg University on Saturday. The North Coast Athletic Conference match gets underway at 9 a.m.
