Quakers Fall to DePauw

RICHMOND, Ind.A couple of runs in the second half by DePauw University was the difference on Saturday as the Tigers defeated the Earlham College men’s basketball team 66-55 on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

In the second period, A. J. Sutherlin tied the non-conference contest at 35-35 with a basket at the 14:04 mark. The Tigers (7-2) scored the next nine points to take a 44-35 advantage.

The Quakers were able to fight back and Matt Marsh cut the deficit to 51-48 when he scored at 6:32. However from that point, DePauw scored eight straight points to go on top 59-48 with 3:47 remaining in the contest to put the game away.

Sutherlin led the Quakers with 17 points, while Marsh added 13 points off the bench. Marty Broderick led the Quakers with five rebounds and Kyle Calder topped the squad with four assists and a pair of steals.

The game was tight in the opening stanza with both teams holding small leads, but DePauw was able to pull away and led 22-16 with 6:19 to go before halftime.

A pair of 3-pointers got the Quakers back in the contest as Ryan Taylor drilled the second trey to make it 22-22 at the 5:35 mark. Earlham was able work its way to a 29-27 lead at intermission to set the stage for DePauw’s decisive runs.

Earlham (3-7) entertains Anderson University on Monday. The non-conference contest begins at 9 p.m.
