RICHMOND, Ind.Earlham College senior Franny Newport was honored this week by the National Soccer Coaches of America.

Newport was selected as a member of the 2009 NSCAA NCAA Division III Women’s All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.

Earlier this fall, Newport earned a spot on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team as a defender. It was the third time she received a post-season honor from the conference. She was All-NCAC Second Team in 2008 after being honorable mention in 2007.

There have been four other Quakers receive the all-region honor from the NSCAA. Junior forward Karman Duchon made the second team a year ago after being first team in 2007. Goalkeeper Shelly Holt was a second team choice in 1998 and 1999.

Current assistant coach Hillary Carter was third team as a forward in 2005, while Maddie Daskovsky was a third team midfielder in 2007.

Ryan Taylor led Earlham with 19 points against nationally-ranked Transylvania University as the Quakers fell 89-76 to the Pioneers, who are ranked 18th in the latest d3hoops.com poll .

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game was in Lexington on Feb.1.
Emily Sells
Women's Basketball
Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
