Quakers Face Wooster in NCAC Opener
Max Crumley-Effinger
Max Crumley-Effinger now holds Earlham's record for the longest field goal after making a 52-yard attempt against Wooster.
RICHMOND, Ind. The Earlham College football team opened its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 49-3 loss to the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Darrrell Beane Stadium.

Wooster (3-1, 3-0) scored on its first possession and added its next score early in the second period.

With the Quakers trailing 14-0, Max Crumley-Effinger booted an Earlham record 52-yard field goal at 8:16 of the second quarter.

Saturday’s kick into the Earlham history book erased Crumley-Effinger’s 48-yard field goal from earlier this season against Manchester College, which tied John Richey’s mark established in 1988.

The field goal was Crumley-Effinger’s 14th of his career, which equals the total kicked by Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame member Don Siler (1991-94).

The Scots added another touchdown just before halftime to take a 21-3 lead at intermission. Wooster put the contest away with three more scores in the third quarter.

James Mees led the Quakers in rushing with 31 yards. Mees completed 10-of-18 passes for 65 yards, while Dorian Jenkins was 9-of-17 for 90 yards. Kyle Ripperger led the Quakers with six receptions for 70 yards. Chris Owens had five catches for 37 yards.

Defensively, Cale Gulliford led the Quakers with 11 tackles, while Kevin Powers and Ben Randall finished with seven each.

Earlham (2-2, 0-1) is back at home next Saturday against Wittenberg University. The NCAC contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
