RICHMOND, Ind. — Callie Thompson scored two goals and added an assist Saturday afternoon as the
Earlham College women’s soccer team celebrated Homecoming with a 4-1 win over
Hiram College on Matlack Field.
Evelyn Tandy gave the Quakers an early 1-0 lead in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest when she scored at 8:00 with
Faye Rowell assisting on the play. It was Tandy’s second goal of the season.
Thompson then scored the next two goals for the Quakers, giving her four this fall. The first came on a penalty kick at 20:26. The second was at 24:14 with
Lauren Berry receiving credit for an assist as Earlham led 3-0 at intermission.
In the second half, Hiram (7-8-2, 1-5) scored at 48:11, but the Quakers responded quickly with
Cate Simmermaker finding the net for the sixth time this season. Thompson assisted on the score at 53:37.
The Quakers led 16-10 in shots, while both teams had five corner kicks. Earlham goalkeeper
Megan Holthaus had five saves for the Quakers.
Saturday marked the final time Thompson and three other seniors would play on Matlack Field. Also finishing their Earlham careers this season are Rowell,
Franny Newport and
Amy Boxell.
Earlham (10-6, 3-3) is on the road to end the regular season against two NCAC foes. On Wednesday, the Quakers visit
Kenyon College for a match at 4 p.m. Earlham finishes the year at
Ohio Wesleyan University next Saturday with a contest at 7 p.m.
