RICHMOND, Ind. — Mistakes hurt the
Earlham College football team Saturday afternoon as the Quakers fell to
Oberlin College 19-13 during Homecoming Weekend at Darrell Beane Stadium.
The Quakers managed to take a 7-0 by intermission of the North Coast Athletic Conference game, but five turnovers in the second half were costly. “You can not turn the ball over against anybody,” Earlham Head Coach Gerry Keesling said. “Our defense played extremely well and our offense is just not jelling.”
“Our offensive line blocked well and our running game got going, but we just had errors,” Keesling added.
Dorian Jenkins and
Bryant Foreman hooked up on a 9-yard scoring pass at the 10:00 mark of the second period to give the Quakers their 7-0 advantage.
Oberlin (1-6, 1-3) scored twice in the third quarter to take a 14-7 lead. The first touchdown set the tone for the period as the Yeomen started the second half with a 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 8:08 off the clock. The second score came after an interception.
In the fourth quarter, the Yeomen added a field goal to take a 17-7 lead. The Quakers responded with a 5-play, 67-yard drive that ended with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Jenkins to
Kyle Ripperger with 3:19 left in the contest.
Oberlin added a safety with 1:13 remaining for the final tally of the game.
Jenkins was 11-of-20 for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Nick Cummings led the Quakers on the ground with 68 yards rushing.
Ripperger finished with five receptions for 79 yards and Earlham’s second touchdown.
Chris Owens had five grabs for 43 yards.
Cale Gulliford led Earlham’s defense with 14 tackles, while
Adam LaFollette added 13 with one sack.
