Quakers Fall in Battle of Ranked Teams

RICHMOND, Ind. — A pair of goals in the second half was the difference on Wednesday afternoon as the Earlham College women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to Denison University.

The North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Matlack Field matched two squads ranked in the Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Quakers are No. 7 in this week’s poll, while Denison is No. 2 in the region and No. 20 in the nation.

The Big Red (11-2-1, 4-0) scored the first goal at 60:01 and the second moments later at 62:17.

Denison led 24-5 in shots with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Earlham goalkeeper Megan Holthaus finished with seven saves.

Earlham (9-4, 2-1) is at Allegheny College on Saturday. The NCAC match starts at 1 p.m.

Women's Basketball
Emily Sells scored 11 points against Transylvania University in an 84-80 loss on Feb. 1.

She posted team-high numbers with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
