Shay Parker is in her first year as a member of Earlham's athletics traning staff, after joining the department in January 2018.
Parker came to Earlham College from the University of Houston, where she completed her Master of Athletic Training degree in May 2017. Her final clinical assignment with the MAT program was with the Rice University football program, where she was assigned for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. In that capacity, she assisted with all student-athlete physicals, maintained treatment logs and prepared injury reports, fitted student-athletes for orthotics, and coordinated activities by the program's undergraduate athletic training students and first-year MAT students on game day.
Prior to her work at Rice, Parker was assigned to the University of St. Thomas, an NAIA program in Houston, for the Spring 2016 semester, where she assisted the head athletic trainer with coverage for all 10 of UST's athletic programs.
Parker earned her Bachelor of Science, Health and Human Performance from the University of Houston in 2014, with a concentration in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, and Health Promotions. She continued her education at the University of Houston as a graduate student, completing her Master of Athletic Training degree in 2017 and earning her credentials as a certified athletic trainer from the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC). During her time at the University of Houston, she worked with the Cougars' football, track and field, and men's basketball programs.
A native of Houston, Texas, Parker also has volunteer experience with multiple marathons in the Houston area, as well as the Galveston (Texas) Iron Man half-marathon. Parker also worked as a cheerleading coach and tumbling instructor at Juergen's Gymnastics for nearly four years prior to attending the University of Houston.
