RICHMOND, Indiana – Jacob Thigpen has joined the Earlham College department of athletics as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach.
"I'm very excited to welcome Jacob [Thigpen] to our program's coaching staff," Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Shawn Hyden said. "Jacob brings a winning mindset from his playing years, and I think he can translate those successful experiences to help take our men's and women's programs to the next level.
Thigpen comes to Earlham from Staten Island, New York, where he spent the last year as a sales consultant for an Exxon Mobil distribution company. Prior to that, Thigpen spent four years as a men's tennis player at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. As a Duck, he was a two-time All-Empire 8 selection in doubles as well as garnering Honorable Mention All-Empire 8 honors in singles as a senior. Thigpen was also a part of four conference championship team.
"I was impressed with the athletics department and the College on my interview," Thigpen said. "I knew this would be a great opportunity to further my professional career."
While at Stevens, Thigpen was president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as serving as a student representative on the Athletics Promotional Committee as a senior. He graduated from Stevens in 2016 with a degree in chemical engineering.
The women's tennis team opens its 2017-18 season on Friday, Sept. 8 against Miami-Middletown.
